Award winning image from Linekin Bay Resort Wedding in Maine!

Aww yeah, it’s another award from the WPJA 2018 v014 Photography Competition – and this one was for Brianna + Jarid’s Boothbay Harbor Maine Wedding at one of my favorite venues: Linekin Bay Resort!

Once again, it’s an impressive group of judges that includes artists who’ve won awards for their gender-based human rights issues work, a Pulitzer nominated photojournalist, a staff photographer for newspapers such as the Washington Daily Globe, and another who was named NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism Photographer of the Year. I will never stop being honored that people of this caliber award my work – it’s so damn cool.

This image from Brianna + Jarid’s wedding that had this fun-loving duo who just beamed as soon as they shook those pre-wedding jitters and made it official in a little chapel by the sea – heading out on the dock to an awaiting boat to take you to the reception with your guests waving you off from a porch above the ocean has got to be one of the coolest send-offs. That and All Saints by the Sea in Southport Maine is just stunning regardless!

These two and their pup, Runtski, not only enjoyed playing in the foggy ocean waters but once the reception was in full swing, they were awesomely and amazingly wild on the dance floor so it was no surprise that when it was time to cut the cake and they said to me, “ummmm how do we do this?” with a little bit of alcohol on their breath, this image is how he decided to feed a slice to Brianna! Cake cutting is usually fairly straightforward so it was definitely awesome to have these two change it up – it was my favorite cake cutting to date.

Being a photojournalist and having couples who are EXCITED to have me photograph the messy, crazy, imperfect moments along with the beautiful and epic ones makes me so incredibly happy. There is so much wonderful emotion on the day of and capturing that all in a true and raw way like this seals in those memories nice and tight for my couples so they will always shoot right back to them the second they look at their images.

Weddings are a lot more than just the perfect dresses and the dreamy looks in one another’s eyes, they’re the wild side of your personality and the incredible amounts of fun that comes with celebrating with everyone you love – so I try to make sure to capture ALL of that when I’m there. I’m so happy I was ready to capture this image and I’m ecstatic that it won a WPJA award!
