It was a sunny day in Boothbay Harbor and Southport Maine for this wedding photographer on Megahan + Jon’s wedding day! I’ve gotten so used to overcast and rainy days this season that it was like a big ole slap to the face when we were just covered in sun all day – and I mean that in the best way possible!
Boothbay Harbor Maine is one of those places I’m falling more and more in love with. Oscar and I have found a quiet little hotel we like to stay in the night before so we’re fresh and ready to go on the morning of (and let’s face it, avoiding that Wiscasset traffic is always a plus) and it’s just so beautifully Maine up there that it’s nearly impossible to not want to spend lots of time taking in the scenery and walking through the town on a warm summer night.
So when I got that inquiry from Meaghan sharing her late summer plans in Southport and Boothbay and that she basically lives right down the street from me, it felt like it was meant to be. Soon after our first emails I got to meet up with her and her awesome mom who was doing a lot of the heavy lifting of the planning since Meaghan was wrapping up her masters degree – and after our time together it only further sealed the deal that this was going to be a great day to be a part of.
Meaghan and Jon have the sweetest and quietest love – but one that’s also full of laughter and admiration for one another. They’re two of the smart ones of the world whose hearts and minds are positively going to help make this world better, without a doubt. And each are surrounded with loving (and funny!) families that have taken their partners in and given them all kinds of support.
On the day of, they both were separately so nervous; she got ready with her at her aunt’s home on the water where the reception would go late into the night, and he camped up at the nearby Oceangate Resort – and I felt those jitters only escalate as we got closer and closer to their ceremony. With surprises from longtime friends who they weren’t sure were going to make it, to spins in her beautifully frothy off-white dress in the sun, we passed the minutes until the clock said it was time to head to the Wilson Memorial Chapel for the I do’s to begin.
Meaghan toasted with blue champagne on the trolley with her girls and family, and Jon stayed hidden away as to not catch a glimpse of his bride before she came down the aisle with her father – and inside the cool stone walls of the chapel that faced the roaring ocean just beyond the grass, they made promises to always love, care, and support one another. With a celebratory kiss and a ceremonial jumping over the broom, it was official and these two were finally husband and wife!
After we spent some time climbing around on the rocks at the beach sitting in front of her aunt’s home in Southport, as well as capturing a beautiful sunset over the ocean water, they danced in one another’s arms and listened to toasts from friends who joined them for their intimate celebration. It was a beautiful night that was illuminated with so many stars that on the way back to our car down the dark driveway, Oscar and I got a glimpse of the cluster of stars forming the band of the Milky Way – and all was right in the world!
Meaghan + Jon, you two are beautiful and I’m so happy you now have photos together (FINALLY!!!) and that I got to photograph your celebration. I wish you two all the best!
