I AM … a Marginal Way in Ogunquit Maine elopement photographer and I photographed Heather + Barry’s incredible sunrise rocky coast ceremony at the ocean’s edge!
Fun fact about me: I don’t typically wake up early, but when I do, I absolutely love it. And I especially love being awake and outside for the hours before and during the moments of the sun rising across the horizon. There’s a different air at that time of day, it’s so beautiful, quiet, and full of the most peaceful solitude.
It’s especially remarkable on this coast where the rocks meet the ocean’s edge and the sun rises up like a fire over the deep blue sea. It’s one of the few times that you can sit on the beaches or watch the water from a nearby bench and be surrounded by others who quietly marvel at the start of the day in the summer and not be overrun with tourists enjoying the sites. So when Heather + Barry came to me wanting elopement coverage with the wild outdoors as their backdrop, I was elated!
They first wanted to book me for the evening on a date I was already going to be photographing so instead they opted for that glorious sunrise on a day I had available and I couldn’t have been more honored that they chose me to join them.
We met up along the Marginal Way walk in Ogunquit where Barry ran ahead to get the ceremony started with the officiant while I laced Heather into her gown and sent her off to her guy. After a moment of silence on the walkway, the four of us trekked down the rocks right to the water’s edge where a handfasting ceremony, beautiful vows, and an exchange of rings sealed their promises to love one another for a lifetime.
And they were down for anything! The water touched the edge of her dress and later she ran off into the waves shin deep with Barry on her arm, they fearlessly climbed onto the furthest rocks for epic photos against the sun rising quickly behind them, and most importantly they loved one another.
After our hours together flew past, they packed up the car and took off for some breakfast and a trip up to Bar Harbor to celebrate! It was such an amazing sunrise elopement and I can only hope I get to be a part of more of them – I loved it!
Heather + Barry, congratulations on a beautiful sunrise ceremony, I wish you all the best!
