Another award for my business in the WPJA 2018 v012 Photography Competition – and this one was for Ali + Bryan’s Trenton Maine Wedding (up by majestic Acadia National Park)! It’s such a great feeling to see an image I’ve taken get awarded and once again there were some incredible photojournalist judges picking the images. From Pulitzer Prize winners to freelance journalists and professors, these four judges have had incredible careers so it’s an honor to have an image chosen by them.
If you remember, Ali + Bryan’s wedding had both Oscar and I tearing up during their ceremony, from the beautiful words read by guests (one of my favorite Pablo Neruda poems), the heartfelt officiant who is a longtime friend of the couple who did an INCREDIBLE job, to the song by another friend – but we also had the best Flower Man moment when Isaac, Ali’s grown cousin, sauntered down the aisle tossing petals grandly and then piling them at Bryan’s feet once he reached the end of the aisle. The entire crowd laughed and while they clapped for each person as they came down the aisle, I think Isaac got the biggest reaction!
I love the unexpected moments on wedding days, the things couples will do that suit them and their personalities, the ways they’ve made the day theirs and memorable to friends and family and this was one of many of those moments. I’m so happy I was there to catch this image and I’m ecstatic that it won a WPJA award this summer!
I’m so pleased this image won a purple ribbon award and this Maine wedding photographer was chosen to photograph these beautiful days.
