Dockside Guest Quarters in York Maine is a hidden gem wedding location. It’s a surprise you don’t see coming when you drive up the gravel road past the boats waiting to be brought to the water and once you park and hop out, you see exactly why couples fall for it and choose it to celebrate their wedding.
As the name suggests, there are docks, quiet waterfront views for a ceremony on lush green grass, rooms for family and friends to stay onsite, and a separate dining space that’s cozy and intimate and to take breaks from the party on the patio overlooking the ocean. Pretty perfect, right?
So when Michaela + Sean reached out to me after seeing a wedding I photographed there a couple of years ago, I was so excited to have yet another incredible couple find me and invite me along as their wedding photographer.
Michaela is basically a bubbling fountain and I think it’s in her DNA to be this warm and inviting woman who never stops smiling, laughing, and enjoying being around those that mean the most to her. My proof: to greet Sean for their first look she opted to pinch his butt before he turned around and brought a bottle of champagne to drink out of the bottle to kick off the day.
And Sean, well he’s a stoic, shy (at least at first until we started laughing and joking around while he hung out with his best friends out in the MUD) guy with a calm energy that fits so beautifully next to his wife. And man oh man does this guy know how to hug the woman he clearly loves deeply. When he took Michaela in his arms while I photographed them as the sun dipped below the trees he grabbed her tight and tucked her into his arms with everything he had – and I got a picture of it to prove it.
They compliment one another and when you combine their unique personalities into a relationship, you end up with this sophisticated joy that can only be described as Michaela + Sean.
They didn’t want to fuss over the wedding day and instead opted to choose vendors they trusted completely and let them take the reins with their professions including the DJ, florist, hair and makeup team, and me. She wanted to have fun when marrying the guy who was imprinted on her heart and I can absolutely say that it was an incredible success.
From best friends that kept the love flowing for these two wonderful people and families that were nothing short of caring and utterly happy to welcome a new member into their families, to a day that flowed naturally and easily and gave me tons of space to be creative and open to their story, I was so enamored with their wedding day.
Michaela + Sean, never stop being you and never forget that while Michaela was hanging with her friends getting her wedding day look in place – Sean and his friends were hanging out in the mud daring each other to climb trees, go for a dip in the ocean, and light some fires. I won’t elaborate further on the last part for Sean’s sake ;)
Congratulations you two, I wish you all the best!
