Bar Harbor Club, Maine Acadia Wedding Photographer : Lauren + Duncan

Lauren + Duncan initially dreamt of marrying on a sailboat out on the water surrounding Bar Harbor, Maine (something I have enjoyed getting used to shooting) but with a wedding being planned during the busy months, and the worry of what they could find for a last minute back up plan if it decided to rain, they decided to instead get married at the Bar Harbor Club and follow it up with a celebration at a family home in Ellsworth, Maine.

As we drew nearer to their wedding day I did my usual check of the weather and it never once wavered from saying there was to be rain and potentially lightning storms on their wedding day and every time I saw that, I was so relieved they went with their gut and adjusted their plans earlier! I knew that we’d enjoy the day no matter the location and I also knew that girls in heels and long dresses fending off lightning bolts was not going to make for a good day out to sea so I was excited to return to the Bar Harbor Club to photograph their celebration!

The girls tucked themselves in a room together surrounded by mimosas, music, makeup, and Ralphie, who is one of Duncan and Lauren’s sweet rescue pups they brought up from their home in Florida, and even though the rain fell pretty hard on their balcony overlooking the water, Lauren stayed calm and kept saying she was just ready to marry Duncan. Yes!! Never once did she get upset because she knew their marriage was all that mattered and so the girls rallied around her with laughter and love.

And then magically, the rain let up. It let up enough so they could still have a first look, the family formals AND the ceremony outside on the patio (where the tears were flowing from both the bride and groom as well as the bridal party!) as well as easing up just enough so we could still make a trip up to the top of Mt. Cadillac and Acadia for photos of the newlyweds.

It was such a great day and the love between these two was apparent in every single moment of the day, and just like Duncan’s sister said in her toast, there is no doubt in my mind that these two people are one of the most in love couples in the world. Their shared love of animals (Lauren is a vegan and they both are animal rights supporters – yay!!), their ability to be utterly and completely goofy with one another as we walked around Acadia and then gently hold one another lovingly in the quiet in between moments let’s me know that this love is for real.

Lauren and Duncan, I had such a great time photographing your group up in one of my favorite places in the world and I wish you all the very best!

Two people in love who can’t hold back their tears when they talk about how much they mean to one another is one of my favorite things in the world.

I look toward the rocks hovering over the low tide and say, “Lauren, do you feel comfortable walking out onto those rocks?” but by the time I look back she is already climbing over the wall and making her way across. I. Love. My. Clients.

What you magically can’t see in these photos are the buses (and I mean BUSES) full of tourists that were swarming Acadia and Mt. Cadillac while we were up there. We got creative though and managed to get some shots without people in the background, yay!
