Meghan + Dave’s Hardy Farm wedding sticks out to me so much because of the absolute unique-ness of each part of their celebration. I’m always encouraging my couples to design the day around their personalities and to do away with anything that just doesn’t feel like them. It’s easy to get into that rhythm of following the so called “rules” of wedding days, even when those rules are based on antiquated ideals of a marriage or just plain don’t sit well with how you would celebrate this incredible day.
I’ve found that the couples who’ve done away with the constraints of the traditional wedding day structure have created days that have so much emotional power and just feel good to the couples overall. Meghan + Dave’s day couldn’t have been more them, and more true to who they are –
and it was beautiful.
It was an overcast day with a little chill following us through the moments, but the magic was everywhere. Their ceremony was tucked into a little wooded space on the property of Hardy Farm and the couple invited the guests to participate through music, song, a fire ceremony, and the passing of loving energy to the soon to be wed. Frames surrounded every part of the day filled with quotes about the strength of love and love letters were read to the couple while they stood in front of their family and friends. Even their little pup Tugger was a part of the love rituals – he initially had a party all of his own while he dashed through the woods causing all of us to call out together to bring him back to the ceremony – which he promptly did and came in close and watched as his parents made it official.
After returning up the aisle, we took a quick trip down to where the mountains sit across from a wide open field for a little breathing room for the couple to enjoy one another before the rest of the celebration. Meghan’s dress was meant for spinning, with it’s light as air material and panels of lace, so as we walked down a the dirt path she spun spun spun before the two of them danced with just the music in their minds to help them sway back and forth.
And their entrance into the reception – holy crap! We thought they’d be entering the party from one spot and then suddenly Oscar noticed the couple was running in from a completely different direction into the tent! We ran over and caught their full speed sprint where they laps through the guests, high-fiving everyone as they ran between each of the tables. (Seriously, they were running FULL SPEED – you’ll see…)
After getting to know them during the time we spent together during their engagement shoot, it was so very clear to me that this day truly was a celebration of Meghan + Dave. The moments were so beautiful and their hard work paid off because each bit was made to fit their love perfectly.
Meghan, Dave + little Tugger, your day was incredible and such a true reflection of the exciting life you two will lead together. I wish you all the best and I’m so happy we got to photograph your love!
