I can’t stress enough how deeply meaningful and inspiring it was to photograph Swapna and Shea’s wedding day. The strong-rooted traditions of the Hindu wedding ceremony were like no other and the honoring of the love they share for one another along with the history and beauty of the sacred rituals and spoken words moved me multiple times during their day.
The couple wanted to share a traditional Indian Hindu wedding ceremony as well as a traditional English ceremony and they wanted to honor as many of the parts but combine it into one day instead of two or three; the result was true magic.
Both families were excited to be a part of each important ceremony with the joy filling both sides from getting ready and adjusting Shea’s mom’s sari, to both sets of parents sitting alongside their children under the Mandap, to presenting flowers to the mothers of the couple during their second ceremony, all the way through the celebrations at the reception.
Everyone, including siblings and their little ones, sat with love in their eyes all throughout the day and seemed to be just as drawn into the events as myself and my second photographer were.
With Hindu ceremonies taking place outside, the Omni Mount Washington Resort’s veranda that overlooks the stunning White Mountains of northern New Hampshire was the perfect location for their day. The Indian wedding ceremony’s Mandap was decorated beautifully by the Priest and it was a cool added touch that he spoke in two languages and explained each of the steps so everyone could not only watch the emotions carry out, they could also hear the beautiful importance of each part.
And the couple? Swapna and Shea, I cannot say enough about you and your kind souls and brilliant minds who have and will continue to do mountains of goodwill for this world.
You two have such a deep love and respect for one another and getting to hear the full details at your second ceremony from your officiant of how you met, fell in love, spent your time together, and ultimately wound up standing before us all on this day had me laughing and feeling honored that two such people would fall for my work enough to bring me along to photograph it all.
The time we spent together under the heavy dark clouds overlooking the mountains with you two sharing smiles at one another constantly and softly holding one another was a dream. I and my second photographer couldn’t get enough of you two! Infectious laughter and a complete adoration was a constant all evening and especially came out when you two got to focus entirely on one another.
Annnnnd then the reception where Shea spoke to his wife and told a story that brought tears streaming down my cheeks solidified that you two were absolutely meant to find one another.
Both families were so incredible to be around all day, I could have spent many more with them all! When I was close during the ceremony, Swapna’s mother motioned I could come in even closer and I was MORE than happy to do that! And when I spoke to her later in the evening a couple of times, I just wanted to go on and on about how much I enjoyed her presence all day. Truly, everyone on this day was out of this world!
Swapna and Shea, I’ve told your wedding day story to so many people at this point and I am pleased to finally share pictures that I absolutely love and have such a strong emotional connection to. It’s my hope that these images (and the rest you’ll have soon!) represent what you remember and what will allow you to share your story for many years to come with those that you hold dear to your hearts.
I wish you two piles upon piles of love, and again, thank you for having me along on your beautiful wedding celebration.
