Anastasia + Jeremy are exactly the type of parents I imagine I would be if I had kids – they’re really real about how much the little ones can be a rollercoaster of super great fun times…annnnd super lame annoying times. They love their little girl immensely (as does their family who can’t get enough of her) but they also are like, “sometimes…she’s a monster” and in a world of people always trying to portray perfection 24/7, their view was so refreshing and like I said, so real!
The day was about the two of them sealing the deal but it was also about baptizing baby Jade and celebrating their new little family and I was so glad I was a part of the adventure.
When Anastasia and I first talked a long time ago, she shared how the traditional plans of having a big wedding with all of the princess details and the mountains of stress was never her thing. She wasn’t a fan of an extended day of fanfare and since Jeremy wasn’t either, a small intimate celebration made perfect sense.
They were excited to celebrate and have her parents with them from Indonesia and so when a trip of theirs aligned with their hopes of an early fall celebration, I put their mid-week intimate wedding plans on my calendar and got excited to see what this woman who I’d grown to be such a fan of over phone and email would be like when I got a chance to squeeze her in person!
And they, as well as their family, didn’t disappoint!
The family was full of laughter and under their breath joking about how little Jade, who was completely entranced by the camera, was “such a good little narcissist” and then showers of kisses all over her chubby cheeks. There were also, of course, those last-minute detail scrambles and the hustle of us all walking to make it to the church on time – all of which made this family my kind of people.
I’ve mentioned it quite a few times now, but new mothers are so incredible to photograph the wedding of. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that I love but there is just this outlook switch in them that appeals to me almost as much as climbing around out in the wilderness or gorgeous side light from a window does ;)
And Anastasia is another perfect example of that new mom bride that I love. That and the fact that it’s also hard for me not to fall in love with a bride who doesn’t care one bit about getting the bottom of her dress a little dirty while we wander around taking photos – but I think those two things tend to come together!
So we meandered across the Dartmouth campus hitting spots in their little town that they love so much (and ones that they don’t care about, but whatever we can get photos there if we want – right Jeremy? Admit it, you love that bridge!) and receiving words of celebration from each person we passed. The time flew at breakneck speed and after our few hours together ended, it was time to hug them goodbye and leave them to their celebratory dinner.
Anastasia, Jeremy + little Jade, congratulations once again and thank you so much for having me on your mid-week celebration. I love your love, your ease with one another, your ability to make the other laugh at the drop of a hat and your strong as diamonds bond. I wish you all the best!
