The Cliff House in Cape Neddick Maine is a stunner and even on a foggy day with the ocean mostly concealed by the dense air, we easily got some photo magic because Rachel and Ben are so easy to spotlight and their energy and love simply drives right through the haze.
Like many others, their wedding date moved from 2020 to keep family and friends traveling internationally as safe as possible from the pandemic that was spreading wildly. So while the bulk of the wedding celebrations was going to move to 2022, they asked if I’d be down to meet up with them on the original date at the same location and photograph the two of them out on the cliffs in their wedding attire for a little while. Doing that meant they could free up time on the wedding day and spend more minutes with guests which sounded like a great idea to me!
So when it came to the new date this past May, I teamed up with my trusty second photographer Enid and off we went to document their long-awaited celebration with family and friends flying in from all over the place to safely celebrate their marriage.
And I always tell couples, no matter what the day brings, if you are willing to go out and play around in the weather we can get some awesome pictures of you two. And this was an EXACT definition of this happening! Our plan was to originally go out on the cliffs at golden hour as the sun was setting but since the day was so heavily fogged in, by the time we were able to escape for a quick five minutes out on the rocks, the light from the sun was all gone and the ocean was still drenched in fog.
We didn’t have enough time set aside to climb around much but I knew I could make something really cool out of it and the stormy blue light enveloping them and holy moly, I love these photos of them at twilight! A special thank you to the couple for trusting me when I said we could still get some pictures and that I’d get them captured quick if they let me guide the way. You guys RULE!!
Laughter and spilled bottles of Champagne, guys entering into the venue all tough-guy style (even if they are so not tough guys haha!), choreographed dances, vows out in front of the crashing ocean below, and capping off the night with some photos of the newlyweds in traditional Chinese wedding attire down at twilight on the rocks…I’d say it was a great party and well worth the wait!
Rachel and Ben, you are such warm-hearted people who went with the flow ever since day one of the pandemic and it paid off in spades because your relaxation and giving in to the whims of the world that were completely out of your control allowed you to glide along with the current and enjoy each moment rather than stressing over what “could’ve, should’ve, and would’ve”.
I love the energy you two have both separately and together and I know that there are going to be many days of laughter, puppy snuggles, and delicious Holy Donuts as you go along through life. I’m so lucky I was brought into your orbit and got the see your relationship deepen even further over the many years we’ve been in contact. I wish you two all the best!
