White Mountains NH Fall Engagement Session

Fall in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is a perfect playgroud for a colorful engagement session. When our original plans for a session in Maine fell through due to a closing of the park, I knew Megan was looking for views and something fall to match her fall wedding so I showed her pictures from Cathedral Ledge and Echo Lake State Park in Bartlett NH and she was sold.

Since fall is absolutely beautiful in the White Mountains, you have to time a session just right to avoid too many people while also playing that guessing game of when will the leaves be bright and hope we don’t have a last-minute rainstorm that brings all the leaves down early. Thankfully we chose an absolutely great day weather-wise and it is also just so happened to be the last week before leaf peeping season was in full effect with hour-long waits in traffic up the winding roads.

We met up at Cathedral Ledge just outside of North Conway NH and since there was a large group celebrating a party in the spot I really wanted to go, I decided to start somewhere a little more secluded and hope that by the time we made it to the sunny cliff overlooking the colorful tree line that the group would have moved along for the evening. And that plan worked out great! Just as we were walking up, the party was leaving which allowed us great views of the mountains and a lot more space to move around.

However, Megan and Michael were total troopers because even though the bulk of the people were gone, there was still a big group of tourists just a few feet away from where we were standing and you’d never know it! The two of them went into the zone (and laughed at me dodging around the cellphones and family members) and we were able to create some magic as the sun started its trip past the trees.

Our last stop before the sun went behind the cliffs was over to Echo Lake which is perfect at that time of day and we pretty much had the space to ourselves to walk around, take photos, dance, and take in the last bits of the bright fall sun.

Megan and Michael, I’m so happy we went up to Cathedral Ledge and Echo Lake in the White Mountains for your session – New Hampshire made for a beautiful fall backdrop for your engagement photos. Thank you for bringing me along to document your love!
