Whenever I photograph families I always go more along the line of photographing them as they are. Less posing, less direction – more watching, more letting things unfold naturally. And I have love love loved the photos that came out of those sessions more than the sessions where they are all posed or set up.
I like capturing families in a way that feels real, authentic and strictly them. Each family has their unique way of interacting with one another and their own little rituals that have become so second nature to them that they no longer even notice them happening. But to an outsider like me, I see those things. Those things that make the family full of fun, weird, wacky, and awesome.
The one thing is that I was only spending about an hour with the families, which I still will offer but I want to expand that and really photograph a full day with the family from breakfast to bed time so that the pictures they’d have at the end would really be a slice of life and a look behind the curtain. There would be of course the meltdowns with kids crying over a toy being taken away by their brother and the force feeding of veggies for dinner but there would also be the times where the laughter rings in the halls and the love overflows.
I love that idea.
So I threw it out there that I wanted to spend at least 5 or 6 hours with a family and photograph their life as it plays out and Kim, Erik, Oliver and Emmaline all came to the rescue and invited me in for the day where I got a chance to see what it was like to be a part of their wonderfully chaotic love fest for the day.
If you’re interested in hiring me for one of these sessions, give me a shout! Or if you would like to just spend an hour or two with me for condensed version of this, we can do that too! Just know that most of the pictures you will see will have more grit and real life feel, because that’s life! It’s not always pretty on the surface, but damn it is incredible and exhilarating and these photos will remind you of EXACTLY what it was like at that point in your life because they will be a true reflection of that time.

Baby Stella (with a bonus video that I personally love)
I have a whole brand and a name for this type of photography that I have been holding onto and not really pushing forward and I will make that all come to light here in the (hopefully) near future. So be watching for that too.
