When I arrived at the Newcastle, Maine home where Kate + Jeremy were going to be celebrating their wedding in a few short hours I was taken aback with just how peaceful the land was. The stately home sat at the end of a long gravel road with bright green grass stretching far and wide to each side. It felt peaceful, calm, and loved. Kate grew up down the street from this home and she spent a great deal of time visiting with the owners; it was clear that this space holds tight to a lot of wonderful memories.

I walked the grounds to get the lay of the land, and as I headed into the trees towards the water I kept hearing a click-clacking sound as if someone was throwing rocks through the trees. It wasn’t until I got down the the shore and saw that it was lined with hundreds of acorns that I realized the sound was of those seeds gently raining down from the trees in hopes of creating strong roots in this quiet corner of Maine. I remembered how my best friend told me about acorns being a sign of good luck and great strength and I found it absolutely fitting that the place where Kate + Jeremy were to celebrate their marriage would be lined with these reminders.

It was an intimate weekday celebration and their small, but absolutely perfect, wedding party set the mood of the day with their playful energy. And since everything took place in locations that were like second homes to Kate, you could tell she felt at ease wandering the halls like she had done so many times in the past. I always say that some of my favorite spots to photograph are the homes where my couples live or grew up in because of the rich history that lives between the walls – this day was the epitome of that.

Kate is finishing up her schooling to be a shelter veterinarian, which is SUCH a cool profession to go into, and like her, Jeremy is also a huge lover of animals so it was important to them to also include their dogs in the ceremony – and man are these pups sweet! The littlest one was held in her bridesmaid Susannah’s arms and their other pup ran down the aisle to announce Kate’s entrance to the classically restored chapel; I was so happy their four legged loves got to witness their vows too.

After photos inside of the home that still held so many memories of the family it once housed, and then more photos out in the surrounding land, the couple played lawn games and listened to an incredible bluegrass band while feasting on a traditional Maine lobster bake.

Kate + Jeremy are two wonderful people who have a beauty that’s not just apparent to the eye, it’s also felt in their presence. Their celebration was full of joy, love, and meaning and I’m so honored they chose me to document it.

How can you NOT love this face?! He is Kate’s shadow and went with us everywhere we wandered.
