There is something to be said about a marriage that happens in the small town you grew up in as a girl. Getting ready at the Inn around the corner from where you grew up, announcing your love at the water’s edge where you used to hang out with friends, and capping off the night by celebrating your marriage in the backyard of your best friend’s house where memories of slumber parties are etched in your mind. Dreamy, right? Neither Oscar nor I had been to Mattapoisett before so we didn’t know what to expect, but let me tell you, it was the perfect backdrop for this wedding. Lacey and Raymond knew clearly how they wanted to remember this awesome event in their lives and they were so successful at creating the perfect night!
The two of them have this easy sort of love. They compliment each other with her gentle and light nature and his assertive and protective personality. Lacey reached out to me first for photographing their wedding and we worked together to make sure the details were down pat and I was perfectly aligned with her vision of the day. And then to compliment her, Raymond took the reins on the day of and carved the most perfect path for me as a photographer by ensuring everyone knew where to be and when, he was on sunglasses patrol for formals (even down to one of the speakers at the ceremony, he gently nudged her as she stood up to take off her sunglasses for the pictures – suh-weet!) and he corralled their combined families perfectly so the formals could be completed fast and super ahead of schedule! Everyone was so wonderful to Oscar and I on the day of including family and friends, that we needed that we truly felt like guests who were attending the wedding of good friends.
And oh, what an event! I don’t think I saw either of them stop smiling the whole night and since their location was at such a good friend’s house, the vibe felt even more relaxed and truly them. From speeches about childhood talent shows going awry and resulting in Raymond and his close friend getting boo’d off the stage (not gonna lie, I laughed out loud to this story) to a perfectly sung first dance by one of Lacey’s friends all the way to toasts shared on the dance floor to Positive K’s “I got a man” – this night was perfect. Everyone seemed to feel the magic that night and it couldn’t have been a better group of people to celebrate a marriage with.
Congratulations, Lacey and Raymond. I am so happy to have met you and to now call you friends of ours; I look forward to meeting up in NYC in the future!
Getting ready location: Shipyard Inn & Shipyard Park
Dress: Saja
Cupcakes: Meredith Ciaburri
Wedding Photos: Sarah Vanessa Photography
Lacey’s Saja dress was soooo perfect and as light as a feather!
Lacey and Raymond opted for a first look which meant we got to photograph this moment they shared just between the two of them before we headed out to pack in all of the formal photos before the ceremony! It also meant we got a little more bonus time to take pictures of just the two of them which means: photographer happy dance!
