Local Love is a new feature on my blog I have been wanting to do for almost a year now; what exactly is this feature? So essited you asked!
Local Love is my small contribution to the artists and businesses in my area. The people who make our towns vibrant, who remember our names and what we typically shop for. They’re the ones supporting the local theater group or doing a fundraiser for a customer’s sick family member. And they are the ones that fight hard for what they love and for their passion even in the roughest of economies or when the big guys come into town and set up shop. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of those big companies too, but in many aspects of my life I try to go local and it’s something I want to focus a lot on in my business.
I know how hard it is to be the small guy, the one that may be just starting out and others don’t necessarily want to support your craft or show you some love; maybe it’s because they think you will be gone in a few years so it isn’t worth the investment or perhaps because they feel they have a loyalty to someone else…
But I think as a community, we should be encouraged to help one another, to support the people in our industry and work to make us all successful. Branch out! Use a new florist in your shop when doing an event, have a different baker/decorator/photographer at your styled shoot. Rising tides raise all ships, right?
So without further ado, for my first Local Love, I bring you Sugar Babe Confections which is owned and run by the lovely Drew Harmansky right in my town of Dover, NH
Drew contacted me wanting to get photos of her oatmeal cookie whoopie pies because she was having trouble getting the perfect images while shooting in her condo. When I told her about this Local Love feature and how I have been REALLY wanting to feature a bakery as this is a big part of weddings, she was sold!
Since Drew doesn’t yet have a store front, we decided to do the shoot at my house because the light is great and I could control the atmosphere much better than a public spot. So with a few requests for her (bring over some fabric that represents your brand, some plain white plates and a few extra sprinkles to spread around if we want them) – we were set!
But I didn’t expect her to bring perfect bakery boxes marked with stickers of her logo and tied with cute Tiffany blue ribbons. I didn’t expect the softly fluffed polka dot tissue paper laid beneath the cupcakes, the clear baggie tied with the teal ribbon holding two whoopie pies, the perfect polka dot cupcake liners around the desserts, the multiple tupperwares of sprinkles to choose from – but that’s exactly what I got.
I literally said, “eeeeee!” when she opened the large box filled with cupcakes because it was all so perfect! And I came to realize, it is all so Drew.
So professional, so determined to go the extra mile, so ready to make it BIG. I was in love with it all.
And she was so fun to be around too. In love with her fiancé and working hard to make her dream come true because the office life is definitely not for her. Her connections in town have allowed her to help make this dream grow this far and it’s my hope that in some small way the photos I captured will only push that success further.
One of the best parts? We got to eat allll of the delicious-ness you see in these pictures! A box of dark chocolate cupcakes with a homemade raspberry buttercream frosting AND the oatmeal whoopie pies (without raisins! perfect!) which are actually her father’s favorite dessert. Needless to say, I was in heaven and loved every single bite. Seriously, they.were.delicious!
Local, homemade with love, and wrapped up in a perfect teal bow. Can’t think of a better business to start out my Local Love series than this.
Drew, I wish you all the very best and hope to work with you a lot in the future! xxoo

Onto the photos!

So this feature is something I am doing to show my support to the ones in my neck of the woods. Local businesses interested in getting a feature right here on my blog where I will take photos of your products or services and allow you to use a couple of these photos (with credit to me, of course :) ) alongside a quick article about your work here – I WANT YOU! Know someone who would be fabulous for here? Email me with their information and I will possibly feature them!
