Calli, Fred and I first met three days before their Preserve at Chocorua wedding – yup, three days! They were in a pinch and in need of a last-minute photographer so when I got their call on a Wednesday evening and heard the worry in her and her mother’s voices I was glad I was able to say, “I’m available and I’m ready to rock your wedding for you if you want me there!”
From there it was a whirlwind couple of days where they did last-minute preparations before heading up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire (and a little partying too) and through it all, they remained calm even with a wrench in their initial plans and I got my gear all prepped, a timeline ironed out for them so we could alleviate some more of that day of stress, and on the morning of it was hugs, laughter and a billion moments of wonderful-ness!
And then I knew we were going to even bond further after I arrived and noticed a bunch of funny kitty things and gifts for the girls as they were getting ready and I was like, “ummmm, are you a cat lover?” to which Calli excitedly said “YES!!! Please tell me you are too!” – that right there folks, I knew it was love!
Turns out that Calli not only loves those fur faces, but she’s also a vet resident right now as are a bunch of people in the wedding party as well as guests, but then one of her bridesmaids noticed the cat tattoo on my forearm (which is of my first cat and based off of a drawing my husband did one night on a scrap of paper) and we all basically became best friends from that moment on :)
That feeling continued throughout the day where I felt like I’d known them forever because they’re the type of people that bring you in and share their excitement with you without batting an eye – from parents to the maid of honor to the college friends, they were such a great group to photograph and spend the day with.
And then there was the time where Calli, Fred and I almost got stranded out by the lake after the car he drove us over in mysteriously wouldn’t unlock for Calli and then decided it didn’t feel like starting (battery was fine, it just was like, “hey, I’d rather sit here in the shade a bit longer”) but just as we were about to call for a lift, it gave in and started. Even then, they were more “well, isn’t that just great” instead of freaking out “wtf” – these two just took it all in stride and we laughed it off.
The Preserve at Chocorua is a favorite of mine, not only is it an absolutely stunning location to host a wedding where not only can your wedding party stay on the grounds for the whole wedding weekend with you, but you can also bring those furry friends of yours but also because I can say that without a doubt, you will be treated like absolute royalty by the family who owns and runs it.
The day was beautiful, sunny, warm, laid back, and full of good people and then the night turned into a rager on the dance floor with their crew loudly singing to the 90’s hits, hugging one another, and performing impromptu dances in line with the words of Celine Dion – it was SO good.
Calli + Fred, I’m so happy I was brought on to photograph your day and got to know you two and those closest to you – enjoy these first few favorites of mine from the day with more to come oh so soon!
