I can relate so much to Caitlin’s heart. The day she shared with her husband Sam had a lot of the same feelings I had on my own wedding day: the way her emotions had such wonderful power over her, the way I could see her pulse quickening, how the tears sat patiently behind her eyes waiting to fall, and the way that nothing felt better than to be in the arms of her husband – it felt like I was walking through a version of the day I married my own love. Her Common Man Italian Farmhouse wedding inside of the greenhouse was the perfect fit for their love.
And Sam was everything a bride wants in her groom. His quiet and steadfast devotion, the tender way he’d hold onto her, the way he pulled her in close so she didn’t brush away teardrops and instead they dampened his cheek as she cried tears of intense love, the way he spoke ever so softly in her ear, and the way his eyes softened every time he looked at his wife.
There was nothing that was hidden or repressed when I photographed these two. The emotions were beautiful and they were raw, the laughter was abundant, and the tears fell like the rain on the glass walls of the greenhouse did when they committed a lifetime to one another.
The day was imperfect, yet it’s imperfections ironically made it perfect.
Because just like the day I was married, the skies were opening up around them, so much so that the plans to be married outside on the grass overlooking the mountain views had to be adjusted – but if it ever were to need to be adjusted, this was the place for it because the beautiful ivy and flower trimmed greenhouse at The Common Man Italian Farmhouse wedding almost served as a better location because it mirrored the spirit of the day which was intimate, warm, beautiful, and full of life.
And even though it rained they knew that photos of this day were key to remembering every inch of it – so into the rain we three went. When the drops fell at a fevered pace they held onto an umbrella to keep them dry, but when it was lighter, they were game to just hold each other close and get pictures of this incredible moment in their lives.
Caitlin + Sam changed their plans of a large celebration in 2018 for the intimate one I got to be a part of and honestly I can’t imagine their day happening any other way. The intimacy encouraged their deep feelings for one another, the intimacy gave them the space to enjoy the small group of people they invited, and the intimacy allowed them to be so true to who they are as people.
It was beautiful, it was magic and I could have spent hours upon hours with these two. Nothing was fabricated, this day was so very real and as a result, this day was so very beautiful. It touched my heart something fierce, it was commuovere and I’m honored I got to watch it unfold and photograph it.
Thank you to Caitlin, Sam + your family for inviting me to this day, it will remain stamped on my heart for years to come – I hope these pictures allow it to do the same for you too. I wish you all the very best!
