Jamaica Plain Boston Newborn Session with Mel, Matt + Yvette

In a world that seems so uncertain, so fragile, and so utterly confusing – it is people like Mel and Matt who ground me and help me see the light in all of this turmoil we’re currently experiencing.

They’re incredible people who do important work both professionally and personally. They use their voices and follow their hearts and they lead with compassion which are all things we need badly, especially right now. I welled up with tears as I drove to their home, that’s how much I love and respect them.

I’ve photographed the two of them at their engagement photos and their wedding five years ago (say hi to them as they remain a constant face on my main slider of images on my homepage!) and then just as the pandemic was ramping up, Mel contacted me to ask if I would photograph when their family of two became a family of three and I added a third time to my list of Mel + Matt dates.

So much was unknown about what everything would be like in late September but all I knew was I was ecstatic to be a part of another big day in their lives. I always feel honored to be brought back to photograph couples from before and I was so wholeheartedly excited to see them.

I’ve said this far too many times, but their wedding STILL remains to be the wedding with the best music all night long (hip-hop will always have my heart and they played THE.BEST.HIP-HOP. while everyone tore up the dance floor and had dance-offs) and the fact that they opened up their ceremony with reading the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage being legalized in all US states, I mean, c’mon! They’re the best!

Sweet little Yvette, you have the most amazing parents. They are going to love you more than you will ever be able to comprehend and they will guide you with wisdom and understanding, I have no doubt about it. Your parents and I talked a lot about this world after we wrapped up photos (socially distanced and outside, of course!) and I know they will have your back no matter what. You’ve got great parents.

I love you three, and I can’t wait to meet up again.
