Holidays at The Nine // NH Wedding Photographer

I am a fan of the holidays. A BIG ONE. Although I will admit that I loathe air travel on the holidays. After over 10 years of living far away from my family and making the cross country trek each time, I have come to really be worn down by the flight delays and cancellations, crabby sick people crammed into tight spaces, the gifts that got smooshed in luggage and the time we drove home from our connection at the New Jersey airport in a massive storm in the last rental car because they said it would be a couple of days before we would be able to get a new flight home. That drive is normally about 5 hours but it took us over 10 and was white knuckle fun! But to be honest, I preferred that over the sleeping at the airport since they weren’t offering up hotels for us. But I digress!!

I love holidays for the lights, the colors, the songs, the traditions, the gift giving (and receiving!), the food and the general feeling of magic that always seems to be thick in the air. Oscar has known since the first holiday we spent together that I had a quirky little thing for pink Christmas trees and had a few years prior purchased a small tabletop pink tree that wasn’t quite the right hue but still was in the right direction, so on our first Christmas living together I purchased a 6 foot tall light pink tree to adorn our house he wasn’t the least bit surprised (I do think when I didn’t stop there and got a 4 foot tall white one and another 4 foot tall pink one he became juuuuust a pinch concerned). He has supported this strange love of our soft pink tree every year and has never once complained about it and will full on defend it to anyone who asks about it – awwwwwww!

So since I love our tree oh so very much, I thought I would share it here for you all to marvel in it’s glory! It glows the softest pink at night and is just beautiful…I swear!

Our cute stockings all hung in a row :D There is one for the two of us and one for each kitty as well!

This is our first full holiday with Otis, our youngest kitty, we adopted him on December 13 of last year so this year it was a mission of mine to find the perfect stocking for him. Thank you, Allenbrite Studio!

This one is mine from when I was wee tiny. My Momma made me this one all old school from a simple pattern that is stitched together and I love it!

Bailey-Boo Radley’s stocking! My Mr. Man passed away last fall but his stocking will always hang with the rest :) I bought his when I was a poor just out of high school kid who was having her first holiday in her first apartment with the kitty her mom adopted for her so she wouldn’t live alone :D I didn’t have much money but when I found this stocking at the local CVS in Cleveland, Ohio it was PERFECT! Bailey was sick when I first got him with a cold and had his hair cut really badly so he was just this goobery mess of a monster…but a monster with the biggest heart of all. He reminds me so much of the Bumble character so we have lots of those around the house at the holidays.

Sweet baby Dexter! He is the gentle giant who couldn’t be any nicer if he tried! He has a long snout, a tiny chirp of a voice, and long arms and legs so we call him our little deer. That and he was Bailey’s side kick from the moment we adopted him so it is fitting that he is the Rudolph to Bailey’s Bumble :)

And my awesome husband’s! I keep insisting that we need to get him a real stocking because this one was a last minute grab our first holiday since he didn’t have one growing up (say what?!) but he says he loves it and thinks it is great. I have my eye out for the perfect one…and I shall find it one day!

I want to decorate more more MORE as we get accustomed to our house and can plan out how we want it to look for the holidays, but we do put up lights on our porch that I love. They are the old C9 bulbs that are big like I used to have as a kid, yet they are LED lit nowadays. I buy them in bulk at Christmas Tree Shops every year :)

Oh and it was FREEZING when I took this picture so I will apologize in advance for it not being as cool as it was in my head. I got out there with gear and could hardly feel my fingers so after I couple of shots, I called it a night.
