The Skinner Barn Vermont Wedding Photographer : Pam + John

Two things Pam + John failed to relay to me before the wedding day: 1) John is a friggin’ identical twin and his twin was going to be best man (twins = fascinating!) and 2) they are completely off the hook/crazy awesome/wild/fun as hell people! It took me about about a minute to make the latter’s assessment and for the former I will just say my reaction was best described with what I said, “Whaaaaaaaaaaaatttttt??? Wooooooaaaaaaahhhhhhhh”

After our beautiful drive in the wilderness that is fall in Vermont, we arrived to the house Pam + crew were renting for the getting ready/slumber party. Pam threw the door open upon seeing me and gave me a massive hug – it was like we were old friends meeting up on her wedding day and I just so happened to be carrying my camera gear :)

I should back up a bit.

Pam + I are almost like old friends. Friends who hadn’t met in person and who’d only talked on the phone twice. But it was our emails behind the scenes where I learned about her, who she was, what the planning had been like and what she imagined for the day that really made it feel like we’d known each other much longer than we had. Her messages made me laugh and her pursuit to have a “class with a touch of sass” Vermont wedding at Skinner Barn set the scene long before I stepped foot into Vermont.

I also knew that she was heavily into dance – which, as a lifelong Fly Girls lover and enormous fan of Jennifer Lopez who finds chances to dance in her own home on the regular – that made me SUPER excited to see what sort of dance floor this wedding was going to have. I’ll give you a spoiler: it definitely did NOT suck. Not one bit.

Everyone that was a part of their day was such a huge personality from her grandmother/maid of honor (she made comments about how she wasn’t going to give away Pam as she walked her down the aisle), to the guys who said…well, I won’t go into exactly what they said in case their mothers are reading this. But truly and honestly, everyone was so great and kept the energy level going so that even though it was a chilly, overcast day we were keeping warm with laughter.

And back to that dance floor – I tend to try to really get into the dance floor for some up close photos when I can and this was hands down the most caring and careful – but still rowdy as sh*t – wedding that not only did I never get bumped into (which, almost always happens when you are small and trying to weasel your way in between people) but I was able to get low to the ground in the middle of the dance floor to get fun angles and not once did I worry that I was going to get trampled. That’s saying a lot!

This was a great night and a great group of people to be around. And I have to add that the DJ and the video team were fun to work with and the caterer’s food was delicious! I enjoyed them all a lot and having great vendors to work alongside means a lot to me so I have to give them extra props. I’m so happy they picked me to photograph their night.
