What a great day for a Pot & Kettle Club wedding and getting ready in downtown Bar Harbor and what a family this group is! Meg’s father is like the awesome dad from your favorite TV show who admires his daughters and is so excited to enjoy all of the day’s moments, and her mom is the kind of woman you always like having around because she’ll make you double over in laughter while also making you feel 100% cared for.
And then there’s Chris’ parents and their combined group of siblings who all pitched in and were a huge part of the day and constantly kept the couple laughing…even if a lot of the times it was because of the sibling’s kids doing what kids do best: being kids!
And Meg + Chris, what great people. The love they have for each other and the complete happiness they had celebrating the day with family and friends made me so glad I got to be a part of it all. The rental home in downtown Bar Harbor where they’d been spending their days leading up to the wedding was decorated with tons of pictures that told the story of who they were as they grew up and who they became when they met and fell in love. I found myself getting to know them better and falling even more in love with them as people as I saw the notes scattered around and looked at the pure happiness in the photos.
They’re genuine, loving, funny, and focused on all of the important parts of the day and letting anything else just slide right past. Meg even whispered to me about how she was sure at least one of her sister’s kids were going to have a meltdown…and she was secretly hoping it would be EPIC. Then shortly thereafter her mom essentially said the same thing to me and I was like, “YES!”
It’s not like I want kids to have a bad time – that’s definitely not it! – but I just love when families are ok with going with whatever happens and having a great time regardless!
I know it sometimes stresses family out to have a child not feeling it (and letting others know their stance) but sometimes kids NOT cooperating makes for funnier memories! I’ll still work to capture their smiles but if it’s tears instead of laughter we’re seeing more of, we’ll get that too – if they’re having an “I’m too tired for all of this” moment, that doesn’t make the day any less special. Besides, those are pictures you’ll laugh about later! And truly, these kids were great and the atmosphere was too because everyone was celebrating Meg + Chris!
And you can’t get much better than a setting of Bar Harbor, Maine and Hulls Cove – I will say it for the thousandth time, I LOVE THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY! It’s beautiful anywhere on Mount Desert Island and I kinda feel like there’s something in the air up there because good vibes and great times always seem to happen no matter what. And their day was no different; there was absolutely nothing to change!
The Pot & Kettle Club where they had their ceremony and reception sits right on the Atlantic and is set in the woods so it feels cozy and almost like this little corner of the world was set aside for just them. It has such great views and is incredibly close to both downtown and Acadia which is always going to be something guests will enjoy. Plus there’s great history decorating the walls and I love working in new places, especially ones like this.
Meg, Chris + your families, thank you so much for inviting us along on your Bar Harbor Wedding. We loved getting to know you all and I wish you all the very best!
You can tell just how much Meg’s dad cares for his daughters.
We were down one little one because she was done with camera time – but we couldn’t pass up snagging this last minute photo before we headed out to the ceremony!
Someone said the sunset wouldn’t be that great at this spot, but I beg to differ! The overcast day led to a one of a kind sunset.
