Weather is always a factor for wedding days, and even though it’s something I am less concerned about because I am willing to go out in most weather, I know it does play a part in how the overall day will pan out for my couples and that’s the part that worries me mostly. So when the weather was starting to whip into a frenzy as we approached Ashley + Devin’s wedding which was to take place aboard the Silverlining Sailboat, I got a little nervous. I knew I would’ve made it work – but I wasn’t sure exactly how they felt about it.
So I messaged Ashley and let her know that since they were eloping on a Thursday evening, we could move the date to another week night that was still open if she was worried about the potential storm (yup, it wasn’t just rain we were worried about, there were thunderstorms in the weatherman’s predictions) and she said that as long as Captain Jack was still down for sailing, they were down to get married. YES! She let me know that some stress eating was happening (haha!) but that a little bit of rain wasn’t going to change their plans as long as I was good to go – which I was of course!
And then magic happened – no rain! We were bookended with storms but a little bubble of sunny skies with the characteristically Maine bright blues and warm rays of light sat over their wedding day which allowed us smooth sailing for their elopement.
We met at Perkin’s Cove and then meandered down Marginal Way along the rocky ocean’s coast for photos and taking in the excitement that was finally here for the two of them. I’d had them on my calendar for months and since I love a wedding that has adventure AND is an elopement, this was one I had been anticipating for a while. The two of them didn’t let me down one bit and they not only climbed around on the rocks, but they laughed, let the wind do it’s thing, and fell effortlessly into one another’s arms.
Once it was time to board the boat and head out to sea, we were like old friends and Ashley’s penchant for stumbling had already manifested a couple times (she’d pre-warned me that she trips a lot and she said her dad still gives her crap about the time she twisted her ankle while trying to kick a pebble in the street – love it!) and then she verbally tripped when she kiiiiiinda insinuated that Captain Jack should be lucky he is still alive – accidentally of course! But still friggin’ hysterical!
Like an old friend of mine, the ocean didn’t disappoint, and while we sat among the rocking waves and the two of them held tight to the sail, they officially became a married couple with just myself, Captain Jack, and his deck hand as witnesses. It was exactly the kind of elopement I dream about being a part of.
When Jack let Ashley know that the tide was too low for us to take the sailboat back into the cove, she laughed hysterically about getting into the little dinghy where the three of us rode across the glassy water away from the chapel of the Silverlinings Sailboat back to shore.
I’m so honored I got to be a part of their Silverlinings elopement, and I wish the happy couple many MANY happy years to come!
